If you have a passion for public health, and need a formal undergraduate qualification, Massey’s Certificate in Public Health is for you.
The Certificate in Public Health is a purpose-built undergraduate programme in the School of Health Sciences. It is an entry-level qualification designed to be completed in two semesters.
You can achieve this certificate if you’re already working in the public health sector, in primary care or in community health roles. Or you may be starting university and aspire to a career in public health.
If you want to contribute to the health of all New Zealanders, this certificate will give you a critical understanding of public health issues.
You will gain practical skills to develop and implement public health initiatives and health promotion programmes. These include those aiming to improve population health outcomes and address health inequalities for Māori, Pasifika and other specific population groups.
You will be able to analyse health inequalities in New Zealand through an understanding of the social, cultural and economic determinants of health.
You will also gain an understanding of public health issues from a Treaty of Waitangi perspective and other key public health agreements like the Ottawa Charter.
“Take the opportunity to acquire knowledge; one must study in order to succeed in your chosen career path…”
"Massey paved the way for me to continue to work full-time and study. The convenience and flexibility of distance learning gave me the opportunity to excel in my career path as an Outreach Community Health Worker.
My chosen study of Public Health and Health Promotion has taken my skill to another level in terms of population health.
I applaud all those that can study at any age, but more importantly around your lifestyle, work, and whanau - and creating that balance.
With Massey University, I was able to achieve the desired outcome, the completion of my ‘tohu’ in Public Health and Health Promotion."
