This graduate diploma will introduce you to integrated logistics systems, and the storage and transportation of products. It is particularly relevant to those in the first few years of a career in the logistics and supply chain industry.
The programme offers combinations of courses leading to a graduate diploma. It offers a choice of courses highly relevant to people with an interest in all areas of logistics and supply chain management. In addition to private enterprises, it will be of interest to military personnel, emergency services, and service industries.
There are no formal research requirements other than those required for assignments or individual courses. The aim of the graduate diploma is to encourage students to take advantage of ongoing and regularly updated learning packages throughout their life.
“My personal journey through study has been a positive one and I would hope that everyone else has a similar experience…”
As an adult I was terrified by the thought of studying. It wasn’t until my sister gained her degree at age 50 that I was truly inspired to start my own journey to complete a qualification in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, which is recognised by the New Zealand Defence Force.
In my role as the logistics officer for YDU I am involved in managing three sub unit warehouses and with advising to the unit commanding officer. I chose to study because I wanted a credential to back up my work experience and provide me some kudos both in the NZDF and in the wider industry.
I am halfway through my Graduate Diploma and enjoying every moment. My grades are better than I could have imagined and the subject is so much more comprehensive than I thought. An initial personal goal of simply finishing the diploma successfully has grown with my confidence and my goal now is to strive to maintain higher grades in order to give myself the option of going onto further study (postgraduate) should I so chose.
Studying has broadened my horizons and scope and added diversity and robustness to my knowledge and abilities in the trade.
At my age I have learnt how to go with flow and this has been really beneficial throughout my study. You’ve got to learn to give your individual lecturers exactly what they are looking for, you’ve got to start from the very beginning and learn skills like referencing just to get going. You’ve also got to adapt to the learning environment and online processes. My open-mindedness has allowed me to take every experience in my stride. As a result I have really positive associations with Massey and plenty of support along the way.
Studying has demystified everything I ever thought about university. There is a certain mystique that it is a place only for very intelligent people, but it’s not. It’s for everyone and anyone with passion to learn and a commitment to advancing their skills.
Businesses are increasingly looking for improvements in their logistics and supply chain performance. While many students may take this major to enhance their performance potential with an existing employer, others may view this major as an opportunity to become familiar with logistics and supply chain operations. For those students, there is a very positive employment picture for graduates.
