Several postgraduate courses in Nursing are delivered via ‘distance or block mode’ with compulsory face-to-face teaching in on-campus contact workshops, web-based teaching, relevant readings and other study material. This is designed to make the courses available to students in employment and located at a distance from the university.

Develop your practice

Students like you initially enrol in the postgraduate certificate to develop clinical knowledge and skills. You then study towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing or progress to a Master of Nursing as preparation for advanced practice roles and/or Nurse Practitioner registration.

Learn from the best in your field

You’ll learn from academics and professional clinicians who are highly experienced registered nurses. Their expertise in practice and research drives the development of relevant, up-to-date course content, teaching, and assessment of your work.

You’ll be supported all the way

There is always plenty of help at hand. Along with contact with your lecturers, Learning Consultants in the Centre for Teaching and Learning are available to support your study and academic writing skills. Each library has a subject librarian who supports you on campus or at a distance.

Number one school for research

Massey’s School of Nursing has been ranked number one in New Zealand in the most recent 2012 Performance-Based Research Funding (PBRF) rankings. PBRF ranks all university programmes for their research excellence.

“Postgraduate study changes the lens of vision for processes and makes you much better equipped personally and professionally to face and be part of changes in the ever-changing health industry…”

I chose Massey University over other universities because of the variety of specialised papers offered, block courses where you can still have in-person contact as well as remote study, the ability to choose from three different campuses and the faculty of and highly qualified academic lecturer experts.

Massey University lecturers have been very supportive and instrumental in this growth of my role. I have met and learnt a lot from the nursing leaders all around the country. The block courses for distance learning have given me the required contact with the lecturers as well as fellow students and the option to study in the University of my choice irrespective of my location and work base.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Nursing (PGCertNurs) prepares nurses like you to embrace new knowledge to develop your professional practice within a clinical speciality.
