Peer Review Forms

Most reviews will involve a light paper design peer review by one or more nominated staff. The following Paper Design: Peer Review Report Form has been developed to encourage formative feedback and qualitative comments. Importantly, reviewers are not invited to provide many quantitative responses. The review form is a dynamic PDF document that can be completed and shared electronically.

As previously stated, the completed peer review form is confidential to the reviewee(s). However, the number of papers which have undergone peer review on an annual basis is used as an institutional quality indicator and currently this information is collected through the Stream Completion Checklist.

Staff may also wish to include evidence from peer review to support annual performance reviews, applications for promotion and teaching awards but this is entirely up to individual academics. And we encourage staff, if appropriate, to support claims about teaching quality by triangulating peer review findings with other data, such as student evaluations.
We also support staff to use of other peer review instruments designed to support focused and comprehensive evaluations (e.g., Teaching Evaluation through Student Dialogue). In addition, instruments and checklists may be available within your professional discipline and you may find useful resources at the websites of other universities. In summary, there is no one model of peer review and we encourage staff to use of a range of instruments in order to most appropriately gather information that meets the requirements of your discipline and instructional context.
